Ipswich Grading - 21st April 2013

Quite a lot of successes today but, as ever, unfortunately with a few disappointments as well.

The day started with Katie, Tegan & Livi in the U15 E comp with Livi taking 3rd individual and a qualification to D and, together, the 3 winning the team prize.  Next up was Eitan in the U13 D, winning by a clear margin he also qualified to Nat C by a country mile - an extra statistic is that he also had the highest form and combined scores in each round of the entire competition.

Mia & Zara followed shortly afterwards in the U13 F and saw Zara winning by a whole mark over the 2nd placed but Mia, unfortunately, losing her way in her set routine but then performing a clean vol.  Emma Heptinstall, also competing on the qualification starved panel 1 at the same time but in the U15 F was in first place after the set but then tied in 1st place after the vol and was placed 2nd on tie-break.

Competing shortly afterwards were Niki and Monica in the O19 & U17 D respectively.  Niki wasn't expecting to qualify and was not surprised although, had she switched the order of her vol and final performances she would have been, she did, however, take 1st place!  Monica, in 3rd after the set performed a great vol to take the lead and meet both qualifying requirements to progress to Nat C - the final didn't see her displaced from the lead so another win!

The final 3 were all on at the same time competing in 3 groups and on two panels, Chris in O15 E, Becky in O17 E and Charlotte in U13 E.  Focussing on qualifying, Chris fell short of his target score in the set and so threw caution to the winds in his vol but whilst retaining 2nd place couldn't bridge the gap.  Becky also had a disappointing set leaving her in last place but a much more confident performance in the vol saw her pull up just short of a medal place in 4th place.  Charlotte reversed the pattern, being in a very strong position in the lead after the set (posting a form score bettered only by 4 on the day), she then lost her way in the vol to stop after just 4 moves.

End result:

• 3 qualifiers - Livi, Eitan & Monica
• 4 wins - Eitan, Zara, Miki & Monica
• Team win - Katie, Tegan & Livi 
• 2 runners-up - Emma & Chris, and
• 1 in 3rd - Livi.

Brentwood Grading H-D, 22nd January 2012

With 45 competing once again we had the largest contingent in the grading competition.  The day saw many competing at a new grade for the first time and so expectations were cautiously optimistic in the most part:

Long trip but worth the drive

Brentwood Trampoline Club had cause for celebration last weekend following a long day at Easton College, Norwich.  The event was just one of four British Gymnastics grading competitions held each year where performers have the opportunity to prove their ability to move onwards to higher grade competition.  For this reason the club's Head Coach, Paul Kitchen was delighted that 26 of the club's competitors had made the long journey as he says:

"It's a long way to go but an important journey to make to test the competitor, and their family's, resolve since when they qualify to National competition the journeys become longer and involve overnight stays."

Paul was equally pleased with the results with 15 of Brentwood's competitors achieving the targets needed for qualification giving a 58% success rate against a competition average of just 34%.  Of course, the club also gained a fair share of trophies with 12 individual podium places and 3 winning teams - full details of the individual success stories are on the clubs website at www.brentwoodtc.org/easton_16oct11.htm.

The next challenge for the club is to host its annual Open Competition at their training base in Brentwood School Sports Centre where they are expecting nearly 300 competitors to be chasing, among other awards, the Georgia Cordery Form trophies for under-13 and over-13 trampolinists. These trophies are awarded each year to those who display the highest quality skills, rather than difficulty, and are in memory of Georgia Cordery.

Competitions update

On the 15th March Anthony Williams travelled to Newtownards just outside Belfast to compete in the National C competition in the Irish Gala Weekend. The results website has pretty much been offline ever since and so we have not been able to get a detail result but we do know he came 2nd - well done Anthony!

Last weekend saw 16 of our members competing at the regional grading competition at Harlow, 11 of them at Regional G. With only four out of one hundred grade G entries qualifying to Grade F it is no surprise that few of our members achieved personal best scores although first-timers Tilly Ashcroft, Jonathan Gibb and Callum Wylie performed creditably. In other respects we did have some success stories with:

• Abbie Goldsmith and Charlotte Hussey taking 3rd and 4th places in the 26-strong under-15 girls Grade G;
• Jamie Perry coming 2nd in the under-15 boys Grade G;
• Joe Dulieu-Hasler also coming 2nd in his first outing at Under-13 boys Grade F; and
• Both Emma & Daniel Frost reaching finals in the over-15 Grade D (girls and boys respectively of course) and each posting 2 new personal bests with Dan also just missing on a trophy in 4th place!

Several others also saw good improvements in their overall ranking.

Upcoming weeks will see us hosting a special competition in support of Georgia's Teenage Cancer Appeal (see our main website for more details) and our national competiotors travelling to Cardiff for the Gala Weekend there on 25th-26th April.
