Easter Trampoline Camp

Get active as Summer approaches! We are holding a Trampolining Camp during the Easter half term holiday, why not come along and have some fun.

Open to all, beginners, intermediate or advanced trampolinists are all equally welcome.

Sessions are : -

• Tuesday 2nd April to Friday 5th April & 
• Monday 8th April to Friday 12th April 

... and run between 10.00am – 12.00 noon @ a charge of £8.00 per day. (£9 if a drink & crisps are ordered beforehand).  For four days the charge is £30.00, for the five days the charge will be £35.00.

All packed up and ready to go...

Loads of thanks to our small band of volunteers who helped us relocate 6 of our trampolines and all end decks and mats to Brentwood Centre for our temporary stay there.  Starting immediately after our regular Saturday session at 5pm we tucked the last bed in to its new home just before 7pm.  Particular thanks to the Harris family who also provided us with a wonderful lorry that accommodated all of our equipment in just one load!  Normally moving offices they were pleased to add moving trampoline clubs to their repertoire - if you need a move check them out on their website at http://www.harrisinstall.co.uk/.

Don't forget we always run a full programme through all school holidays (at Brentwood Centre between 16th July & 11th August and thereafter back at Brentwood School) as well as extra training camps and opportunities - please ask your coach if you want to do more during the holidays or email Nina for more details of the camps we are running.  Nina can be emailed through the funds@brentwoodtc.org address.

Half-term fun - 6th - 9th June

Following the enormous success of the Easter "Tramp Camp", which not only saw many first-timers get the bug but was great fun as well, Nina is now organising another for the June Half-Term.  There are spaces for all levels and capabilities so why not book your space now on Wednesday, Thursday or Friday between 10am - 12noon for £8 a day or £20 for all three.  More details from Nina by email funds@brentwoodtc.org.

Following on from this we are also holding a Jubilee Jump event on the Saturday 9th between 12noon - 2pm (before the PAYG and regular club sessions).   All those wishing to take part in this will be allocated a challenge to perform 60 repetitions of a move or skill in a 5-minute slot, sponsorship forms and more details are again from Nina or check out the cupboard door which is increasingly becoming our default notice board these days!

PB Challenge 2012

Saturday afternoon saw our first PB Challenge competition take place. We wanted a competition that was fun for everybody to take part in and we certainly achieved this with a great atmosphere.  Nearly 30 competed, with most taking part in the 'handicap' section of the competition where their scores were adjusted relative to their personal bests.  For a fuller report and individual results check our website at http://www.brentwoodtc.org/brentwood_07jan12.htm.

Xmas & New Year opening

Brentwood Trampoline will remain open throughout the Christmas Holiday period with only minor changes to its programme. All changes are documented on the club website at brentwoodtc.org but, in summary:

• Christmas Eve, pre-pay sessions earlier, 'pay-as-you-go' moved to preceding Wednesday 21st at 4pm;
• Christmas and Boxing Day Bank Holidays - (Monday & Tuesday) - centre closed
• New Years' Eve, pre-pay sessions earlier,  'pay-as-you-go' moved to preceding Wednesday 28th at 4pm
• New Years' Day Bank Holiday - (Monday) - centre closed;

Brentwood Trampoline Club had cause for celebration last weekend following a long day at Easton College, Norwich.  The event was just one of four British Gymnastics grading competitions held each year where performers have the opportunity to prove their ability to move onwards to higher grade competition.  For this reason the club's Head Coach, Paul Kitchen was delighted that 26 of the club's competitors had made the long journey as he says:

"It's a long way to go but an important journey to make to test the competitor, and their family's, resolve since when they qualify to National competition the journeys become longer and involve overnight stays."

Paul was equally pleased with the results with 15 of Brentwood's competitors achieving the targets needed for qualification giving a 58% success rate against a competition average of just 34%.  Of course, the club also gained a fair share of trophies with 12 individual podium places and 3 winning teams - full details of the individual success stories are on the clubs website at www.brentwoodtc.org/easton_16oct11.htm.

The next challenge for the club is to host its annual Open Competition at their training base in Brentwood School Sports Centre where they are expecting nearly 300 competitors to be chasing, among other awards, the Georgia Cordery Form trophies for under-13 and over-13 trampolinists. These trophies are awarded each year to those who display the highest quality skills, rather than difficulty, and are in memory of Georgia Cordery.

We had some really great results in Ipswich with lots of trophies and qualifications through regional grades and many personal best scores as well.

George Nissen - sadly missed

We have been advised by Tim Blake, the son of the Nissen UK Chief Exec Ted Blake who worked with George Nissen to develop the modern sport we know today, that George Nissen, the inventor of the modern trampoline, passed away. He died this morning at 3:10am (London local time) mid-evening Wednesday 7:10pm (San Diego California local time - 7th April) at the age of 96 from complications from pneumonia. His wife and family were in attendance at his bedside. Our thoughts are with his family and friends.

George Nissen was an inspiration and despite his age was always in attendance at the annual Nissen Cup, the longest running international competition in trampoline named in his honour, where he would still perform tricks to delight the audience. Georgia's GCTA Open Results

The full results of this competition are now available on our website. Our own members also did really well with a large number of new competitors who survived the day with smiles on their faces, and even trophies or certificates. With 32 members actually competing on the day they achievd the following results:

Competitions update

On the 15th March Anthony Williams travelled to Newtownards just outside Belfast to compete in the National C competition in the Irish Gala Weekend. The results website has pretty much been offline ever since and so we have not been able to get a detail result but we do know he came 2nd - well done Anthony!

Last weekend saw 16 of our members competing at the regional grading competition at Harlow, 11 of them at Regional G. With only four out of one hundred grade G entries qualifying to Grade F it is no surprise that few of our members achieved personal best scores although first-timers Tilly Ashcroft, Jonathan Gibb and Callum Wylie performed creditably. In other respects we did have some success stories with:

• Abbie Goldsmith and Charlotte Hussey taking 3rd and 4th places in the 26-strong under-15 girls Grade G;
• Jamie Perry coming 2nd in the under-15 boys Grade G;
• Joe Dulieu-Hasler also coming 2nd in his first outing at Under-13 boys Grade F; and
• Both Emma & Daniel Frost reaching finals in the over-15 Grade D (girls and boys respectively of course) and each posting 2 new personal bests with Dan also just missing on a trophy in 4th place!

Several others also saw good improvements in their overall ranking.

Upcoming weeks will see us hosting a special competition in support of Georgia's Teenage Cancer Appeal (see our main website for more details) and our national competiotors travelling to Cardiff for the Gala Weekend there on 25th-26th April.

Georgia's Teenage Cancer Appeal

Together with the other trampoline clubs in Brentwood we are pleased to be supporting this appeal which is the brainchild of Georgia Cordery (13) who is herself suffering from a rare form of cancer.  The main focus of our collective efforts is an extra Open Competition which we will be hosting at BSSC on 19th April.  You can find out more about this competition on our website here but, in the meantime, we are appealing for any help we can get to maximise the donation.  If you are able to help in any way either by providing services, raffle prizes, or plain simple money, please contact either of the following:

Jack Petchey - January Winner

The winner for January was very deserving following a couple of months in which she has worked very hard on her performance and form and is now showing some considerable promise. Well done to Rebecca Martin!

Southern Gala

Held at Burgess Hill on 21st/22nd February we had four competing here and results were a big improvement over Cocks Moor Woods.

Stephen Page and Scott Gregory competed in the under 19 FIG B and went into the 'zero-final' in 4th and 1st place respectively securing both promotion points and their place in national finals. Unfortunately Stephen didn't finish his final vol and so ended in 8th place but Scott continued to focus well on strong form on a much-reduced tariff and performed well enough to take 2nd place.

The under 15 National C competition with Hannah McCann and Charlotte Webb was over 60 strong so reaching finals was a big ask. Charlotte did a near-repeat of her West Midlands scores, securing a second qualifying score for nationals, and was placed 11th overall, Hannah was 1st placed after preliminaries with both finals qualification and a promotion point in the bag, the zero final, however, saw her pipped at the post by 0.5 to take 2nd place.

West Midlands Gala

Held in Cocks Moor Woods on 31st January and 1st February this competition saw only 3 of our members competing - Charlotte Webb in the under 15 National C grade and Stephen Page and Scott Gregory in the under 19 FIG B. This was a disappointing competition for both boys with neither making the final or achieving finals qualification but Charlotte did somewhat better qualifying to National Finals and just missing a final round place on tie-break.

Scott at the Australian Youth Olympic Festival

Scott Gregory is one of the young future Olympians representing Team GB in the Australian Youth Olympic Festival (AYOF) this week. Time lags and cost of telephone calls mean we have been getting little information back but there are some reports and interviews online as follows:

The actual trampoline competition takes part on 17th January, still a couple of days away.  As and when more reports become available I will link them in from here.

Hitchin Grading

This grade G - D competition held on 11th January saw 16 of our members travelling to Hitchin with traces of snow still on the ground and the inside of the hall didn't get much warmer - fortunately our members' performances were good and warmed us all up.

• Antony Wyman, O15M G, came 1st and qualified to E,
  
• Abbie-Jo Goldsmith, U15F G, came 2nd (of 27!) and also qualified to E,
• Jamie Perry, U15M G, came 2nd,
• Kendra Sherlock (14th), Megan Gannon (10th), Victoria Webb (11th) & Georgia Tyrell (21st), U13F G, took team 1st against 3 other teams in this large, 2-flight, group whilst Tegan Roycroft in the same group overcame her mid-week gremlins to end in 12th place,
• Joseph Dulieu-Hasler, U13M G, came 2nd,
• Lizzie Nicholls, O15F E, came 7th,
• Mark Hardiman, O15M E, came 6th scoring a new PB,
• Kallum Sherlock, U15M E, came 2nd
• Chrissie Law and Emma Frost, O15F D, came 1st and 6th,
• Daniel Frost, O15M D, came 2nd with two new PBs and a qualification point,
• Kensie Sherlock, U15F D, came 3rd.

Jack Petchey - May winner

Having spent a considerable time competing at Grade 3 our May winner pulled herself into Grade 2 this year and has flourished. Starting the season gingerly she has recently achieved consistent scores qualifying her to National Finals and also medalled. Well done Chrissie Law, the hard work you show consistently in training is paying dividends.
