New bed for Christmas

Courtesy of a Jack Petchey Project Grant of £500 and a contribution of £1,300 from Brentwood School, the club has taken delivery of a new 5x4 bed and springs costing nearly £2,100. The balance came from club fund-raising in the form of our Open competition held in September.

The Project Grant was linked to last years Leader Award winner, Steven Nicholls - members are reminded that a Leader can be nominated every year and, so far, nobody has been nominated for 2010 - find out more about Leader Awards on our website here.

Early trampolining newsreel

Brentwood's place in UK trampoline history has been fully documented on our website but a correspondent recently alerted us to an amazing piece of newsreel footage - check this out:

...click on the picture to view the newreeel on Pathe's website. Although the film was taken at Loxford School, Ilford, the teacher, Ted Blake, spent most of his life in and around Brentwood and ran Nissen's UK operations from here for many years. Find out more about this on our website.

AGM Postponed

As a consequence of the near-tropical weather conditions we are enjoying at present (hmmm), the committee has decided it is right to postpone the AGM scheduled for tomorrow evening.

We have not yet set a new date but it is likely to be on a Friday early in the new year when we will also have a belated festive celebration.

Also to note that during these weather-beset days all members are advised to check the website for an update on training sessions before travelling, we will normally find out if the centre is closed shortly after 3pm.

Tuesday 30 November 2010

Snow Update

With snow still falling it is not certain whether trampolining will be on tonight - this decision will be made by Brentwood School Sports Centre later this afternoon. If the decision is made to:
  • close then we will update the website calendar (www.brentwoodtc.org) as soon as we hear and you are encouraged to check this before travelling.
  • remain open then we (coaches) will do our utmost to ensure that all is ready for you to attend as normal.
This advice will also apply to any future days of possible snow-disruption.

UPDATE : As of 3pm, 30th November, BSSC have yet to make a decision but expect to do so shortly after 4pm.

Buying a leotard for Christmas?

If so, be very careful where you go. One of our members has recently been stung by a company she had taken to be the suppliers of our club leotards. Following an order she has received no leotards and despite assurances they were re-sent has still not many weeks later. To avoid doubt, the only Star Leotards company we deal with is based locally in Billericay, their website is at www.starleotards.co.uk (pictured here) and they can be contacted by email at info@starleotards.co.uk. Any other firm calling themselves Star Leotards will not be the one we trust.

2010 Annual Report online

All members attending the AGM on 3rd December (starting at 7pm) are encouraged to read these before the evening in order to keep the meeting part as short as possible. Don't forget we are in a different venue this year (Brentwood Cricket Club's clubhouse at the old County Ground on Shenfield Road).

As well as Disco there will also be award presentations to this years Jack Petchey winners with a representative of the Jack Petchey organisation joining us.

There will be snacks available but please do remember to bring your own drinks and glasses.

The top 16 men and women will perform to win the coveted gold medal only available once every four years and seen as the most desirable medal to own. There is something very special about being an Olympic Champion it ranks alongside becoming World Champion in your chosen sport.

The dates are still provisional at this time and are set as 3rd & 4th August 2012. Ticket prices have been announced as £185, £115, £75, £40 & £20 with tickets going on sales next March. If you want to be there then book early. For £185 you might be spotting for them! Easton Grading Results Now Online

It was a long journey there and back, for some lasting most of the day following a breakdown, but it was worth the trek. With 21 competing on the day we had 14 trophies (and 7 medals), 14 improved personal best scores and 9 qualifiers!

Individual results and scores and more pictures are on our website at www.brentwoodtc.org/easton_17oct10.htm. Pictured right one of our winning teams on the day

Discounts on Gym Membership

A little while ago we announced that Brentwood School Sports Centre offer us a discounted membership rate (thanks to Celia Badley for negotiating). If you want to benefit from this approx 24% reduction and waiving of joining fees (net costs £35 per month gym and pool or £26.50 for gym or pool) you simply need to speak to Reception and ask for the 'Brentwood Trampoline Club Corporate Rate'. They will then know how to process your application.

Easton Grading Programme

... is now online on our website together with a link to directions to the venue; from Brentwood you will need to allow yourselves a good 2 hours I'm afraid and, since the comp starts at 9:30, that means an early start for most of us! No programmes will be on sale at Easton so please do print a copy before you go if you want one. Organisers have advised us that the competition will be held in the tennis centre rather than the sports centre used for previous competitions (its on the right had side as you drive in towards the Sports Centre).

Good luck to everyone competing!

Need a new leotard?

Star Leotards will be visiting us on 23rd August at 7pm for anybody needing a new leotard, shorts etc... If you need one it would be good for you to let them know in advance so they can bring appropriate sizes to try on. Remember all leotards ordered are made to size and are not 'of the peg' so if you need one for the Open or October Grading now is a good time to order.

News on fees from September

We are pleased to announce that we are able to reintroduce discounts (of up to 25%) on members' fees with effect from September. To read more about how you can benefit from this please read the letter on our website.

George Nissen - sadly missed

We have been advised by Tim Blake, the son of the Nissen UK Chief Exec Ted Blake who worked with George Nissen to develop the modern sport we know today, that George Nissen, the inventor of the modern trampoline, passed away. He died this morning at 3:10am (London local time) mid-evening Wednesday 7:10pm (San Diego California local time - 7th April) at the age of 96 from complications from pneumonia. His wife and family were in attendance at his bedside. Our thoughts are with his family and friends.

George Nissen was an inspiration and despite his age was always in attendance at the annual Nissen Cup, the longest running international competition in trampoline named in his honour, where he would still perform tricks to delight the audience. More details about Nissen's contribution to trampolining are at http://www.brentwoodtc.org/history.htm and associated pages.

Bouncing Higher

The following announcement on the BG website affects international competition from this September onwards and is highly likely to filter into UK competitions over the next year to 18-months so good reason to start to work on getting those routines a little higher:

The FIG Executive have approved a new Code of Points for Trampoline which will come into affect on 1st September 2010 and which will include Time of Flight to be used in all rounds of individual competition (first, second and final routines).

The Time of Flight will be added to the current scoring system i.e. a routine score is E+E+E+D+T (T=Time of Flight).

The FIG EC has also approved a document that outlines the functional properties of the “machine” (TMD - Time Measuring Device) developed by the TRA-TC and the Apparatus Commission together.

For further information please visit the FIG website.

Hull Gala Results

A very good weekend for us in Hull. Saturday had Hannah McCann and Charlotte Webb entering their first FIG B event whilst Sunday we had Chrissie law & Anthony Williams in the National C competition. Hannah & Charlotte were not able to repeat their 1/2 in their last National C but did very well indeed beating many regular FIG B competitors taking 4th and 5th places respectively. Anthony & Chrissie both also finalled with Anthony taking 5th and Chrissie 7th.

Detail report is online at http://www.brentwoodtc.org/hull_06-07mar10.htm

Early Season Highs

Early season has been seeing Brentwood excel in all areas of competition. We have seen our members succeed in both regional and schools competitions and this weekend was the turn for national competitors. There were mixed results at the Gloucester Gala weekend with a disappointing day for Chrissie but delight for Hannah and Charlotte streaking away from the competition with a 1-2 placing (decided between them on tie-break), a new personal best for Charlotte and qualification for both to national finals/FIG B competition. Read more on our website at http://www.brentwoodtc.org/gloucester_06-07feb10.htm.

School's Results

Apologies to our members competing in the Zonal School's Finals on 17th January for not getting this on-line sooner but despite being late, we're pleased to report an excellent day for our members:
  • Charlotte Webb took second in the under-15 girls Elite;
  • Daniel Frost (despite being 2 grades lower than most) narrowly missed qualification to nationals in 4th place in under-19 boys Elite and is now sweating on somebody above him dropping out;
  • Maddison Merritt won the under-11 girls Novice;
  • Susanna Badley won the under-13 girls Novice closely followed by Fiona Humphries and Lucy Phillips making it a 1-2-3 for the region and club;
  • Susanna & Lucy were also joined by Emma Brereton and Ellie Guy in winning through as a team for Coopers Coborn.

Brentwood Grading 24th January 2010

From Brentwood Grading 2010
Some disappointments I know but by and large a really successful day. First of all thanks to all of you who turned out to help set-up and took on tasks during the day but particularly very big thanks to the small number who were there Sunday evening putting it all away again.

A full report is on our website here but, in the, meantime headline news is:
  • 34 club members taking part in 12 different classes;
  • 7 individual and 7 team winners;
  • 4 taking second places;
  • 2 taking 3rd places;
  • 8 improving on personal best scores;
On the downside, only 5 managed to achieve qualifying scores (although a few were only a few decimal points off) - judging really is very tight right now it seems.

Brentwood Grading - Postponed

Following discussions with ECGA about Sunday's competition, the decision has been made to postpone it until 24th January.

This decision has been taken because travel in the outer reaches of the region are still predicted to be difficult on Sunday and for many it would be unsafe to travel.

More Snow Update

Although most of the local schools are closed today it seems that Brentwood School is functioning normally and, having just called the centre, they expect to be open this evening until 9pm again so it looks like Thursday sessions will be running pretty much as normal. Please check back later for any update to this though.

Snow Update

--UPDATE--

The centre has just confirmed that they will be open this evening until 9pm and so we will be running sessions as normally as possible.

--END UPDATE--

There has been quite a lot of snow in Brentwood overnight and today and several schools (including in the last hour) Brentwood School are either closed or have sent pupils home early. As at time of writing, though, the Brentwood School Sports Centre has not yet made any decision about whether or not they will be open as usual this evening. Please check back later for updates.
